Some leaders from the Ondo North Senatorial District have advised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to set up a Security Trust Fund to tackle the growing security challenges in the state.

Led by an erstwhile member of the National Assembly, Bode Olajumoke, the leaders said the trust fund would provide better funding for internal security.

The leaders, who spoke on Tuesday during their visit to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at his office in Akure, the state capital, raised concerns about the rising cases of kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Mr Olajumoke said setting up the Security Trust Fund through an executive bill would also assist the state in preventing crimes.

“If the government proposes a Security Trust Fund through an executive bill, the ultimate outcome will bring about a more effective coordination, synergy, and improved funding for internal security in the state,” Mr Olajumoke said.

The former senator asked Mr Aiyedatiwa to consider acquiring sophisticated equipment and deploying technology to enhance the performance of the Amotekun Corps.

“In addition, also recruiting more personnel for the corps in ensuring more boots are on ground,” Mr Olajumoke said.

He commended the governor for his early strides in governance, mostly in infrastructure development, and urged him to prioritise the equitable distribution of projects across the three senatorial districts.

Mr Olajumoke, however, encouraged the governor to be cautious in forming his cabinet, emphasising the need for competence and fairness.

Responding, Mr Aiyedatiwa said no fewer than 115 military personnel have been deployed to the state’s northern area to tackle the recent security crisis.

The governor also expressed willingness to consider the proposed Security Trust Fund and announced plans to bolster the Amotekun Corps with more personnel.

Mr Aiyedatiwa, who highlighted the importance of traditional institutions and leaders, assured that royal fathers would always be carried along in his administration.
