Insecurity: KWASU orders temporary relocation of Ilesha-Baruba campus to Malete

The Management of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, haa said the movement of staff and students of Ilesha-Baruba Campus to Malete campus is a precautionary security measure.
This is contained in a statement from the Acting Director, University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, on Wednesday in Ilorin.
She said that the extended management of KWASU was at Ilesha-Baruba over the weekend to pass the information to the students and staff.
The university management on Tuesday directed students and staff at the Ilesha-Baruba Campus to relocate to the main campus in Malete, citing growing security concerns within the region.
The students were urged to pack only essentials as the university works to secure safer accommodation on the main campus.
The move is described as a precaution meant to safeguard the university community.
The directive comes shortly after Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh and top management visited the Ilesha-Baruba Campus on November 30 to assess welfare conditions and facilities.
The evacuation is expected to remain in effect until the security situation stabilises and normal academic activities resume.
Ms Aliyu used the opportunity of the visit to announce the weeklong 13th convocation of the university which will commence on December 9.
She said, “The KWASU Ilesha-Baruba community will be a part of the week-long ceremony. After, the entire student body of the university is expected to proceed on the mid-semester break ahead of resumption in January.”
