The Nigerian Army has organised a five-day operation training on Operation Planning Cadre for personnel of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasararawa State.

Maj.-Gen. Hilary Nzan, the commander of the special forces, declared the training open in Doma on Monday and said it aimed to build the capacity of the personnel towards tackling insurgency, terrorism and other forms of insecurity in the country.

Mr Nzan added that the training would allow the field officers to learn more about the rudiments of operations for supporting and executing strategic plans.

”This training, an annual exercise, is basically for young officers. It is in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) command philosophy, which is to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.

“The modules of the cadre are carefully designed to train and equip the officers with relevant operations planning essentials towards achieving our goals and objectives,” he said.

The commander said the Nigerian Army would not relent in its quest to defeat any threat to national security and territorial integrity.

He called on the participants to take advantage of the training to understand the dynamics of proper synergy, collaboration and sound coordination of operations with other security agencies.

Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Adams Audu, commandant, Nigerian School of Military Engineering, Makurdi, said the army would collaborate with other security agencies and key stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in all parts of the country.

He added that the army is currently at the forefront of fighting insurgency, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts, kidnapping, and militancy, among several other security challenges bedevilling the corporate existence of Nigeria.

“These unscrupulous elements have deployed different methods and tactics in a bid to frustrate the successes recorded by the Nigerian army in its operations.

“To this end, all personnel must possess the requisite capacity and competence to effectively tackle these challenges through deliberate understanding and deployment of principles and planning procedures for the conduct of operations,” he said.
