Israel’s military has said it launched fresh air strikes across Lebanon on Thursday, targeting what it described as weapons depots and rocket launchers belonging to the Shiite militia Hezbollah in the country’s south.

The Israel Defence Forces said the wave of strikes hit military infrastructure used by the Iranian-backed group to plan attacks against the Jewish state.

It characterised Hezbollah’s presence in the targeted areas as a violation of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah in late 2024.

The reports could not immediately be independently verified, and Israeli officials provided no information on potential casualties.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah intensified throughout 2024 before a ceasefire was agreed in November of that year.

Under the terms of the truce, Hezbollah was required to disarm, but a key deadline for the group’s disarmament expired at the end of 2024.

In spite of the ceasefire, the Israeli military has continued near-daily strikes on Lebanese targets.

According to official Lebanese figures, more than 300 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli attacks since the truce began.

The United Nations has said that more than 100 of those killed were civilians.

“The IDF will continue to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel,” the military said in a statement.
