Israeli airstrike kills Hamas member in southern Lebanon

An Israeli strike on Wednesday near Lebanon’s southern port city of Tyre killed a member of Palestinian extremist group Hamas, Palestinian and Lebanese security sources told dpa.
They said the strike targeted a car near al-Housh on the outskirts of Tyre.
In a statement, Hamas confirmed that the targeted person was a member of the movement called Hadi Mustafa, based in the Palestinian Rashidiyeh Refugee camp near Tyre.
According to the Israeli army, the man was responsible for terrorist attacks on Israeli and Jewish targets in several countries.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) said two people were killed in the strike – a Palestinian and a Syrian passer-by.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib has asked the Lebanese UN mission to submit a complaint to the UN Security Council regarding Israeli attacks that targeted civilians in residential areas around the city of Baalbek and neighbouring villages.
“What causes more concern is that this escalation comes in areas far from the southern Lebanese border, which indicates Israel’s desire to expand the conflict and drag the entire region into a war,” Bou Habib said in a statement on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement fired some 100 rockets at two Israeli military bases on the Golan Heights in retaliation for Israeli airstrikes that hit Hezbollah posts in the ancient city of Baalbeck, killing one person and wounding several others.
Since the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7 and the start of the war, Hamas-allied Hezbollah and Israel have traded attacks almost daily.
