The federal government has said it will be impossible to evacuate Nigerians residing in Sudan following the ongoing violence in the northeast African country.

This, according to the government, was as a result of some aircraft parked at the country’s airport that were set on fire yesterday.

Sudan has suffered an immense crisis in the past week due to the clash between rival military forces that has killed hundreds of persons.

The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said this on Friday in a statement signed by the Commission’s spokesperson, Gabriel Odu, according to a report published by DailyTrust newspaper.

“The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa has said while the Nigerian Mission in Sudan and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), have put in place arrangements to evacuate Nigerian students and other Nigerian citizens stranded in Sudan, the tensed situation makes it gravely risky and impossible for any flights at this point in time., noting that aircraft parked at the Airport in the country were burnt yesterday morning.”

The Commission also urged those involved in the ongoing fight to view the Juba Peace Agreement as a key tool for restoring stability and peace in the country.
