It’s impossible to solve Nigeria’s electricity problem in one tenure: Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says he cannot guarantee Nigerians 24-hour power supply because it is impossible to achieve within four years.
Mr Obi, who has publicly vowed to serve just one four-year term if elected president, admitted it is impossible to fix Nigeria’s electricity crisis in just four years during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday.
“I will not tell them I’m going to give them reliable, stable, 24-hour electricity within four years,” Mr Obi said when asked if he could fix Nigeria’s power crisis, which successive governments have failed to address.
“It is impossible because if you want to build a power plant, it will take you about four years to build a power plant. If you want to build and improve our transmission line, it will take you a number of years,” Mr Obi said.
Mr Obi, a former Anambra State governor, however, said his government will “be able to generate more than 10,000 megawatts. We are doing that today—we are generating more than 10,000—but we are not able to transmit that.”
