King Jaja of Opobo in Rivers, Dandeson Douglas Jaja, has encouraged Opobo indigenes to come home and invest to enhance its development.

Mr Jaja made the call during the 2025 Opobo International Charity Day on Thursday in Opobo.

He urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of love for one another for the continuous unity of the country.

The king stressed the need for the rich to train the children of the poor, explaining that the neglected, untrained children could become a problem in society in the future.

According to him, the relative’s child you refused to train now will become the albatross around the neck of your children you are training very well when they come back home.

He also urged Nigerians to improve the lot of the elderly, especially those who did not have anyone to care for them.

The monarch, however, commended an indigene of Jaja, Jake Epelle, founder of the Cash for Elders Foundation, for using his resources to  benefit the elderly in the community.

He said the research done by the foundation to get the recipients in Opobo exposed many things that called for establishing a hospital in the community for the reach of the elderly.

He stated that putting smiles on the faces of the elderly was not ‘’a one-way street,” as the recipients, on their own, had their prayers for benefactors.

“These prayers by these women and men, the downtrodden of our society, those who are weighed down by age, go a long way,’’ the king said.

Mr Jaja is marking his 45th year on the throne on January 3.
