Jay-Z slams Grammys for snubbing Beyoncé, other nominees

Jay-Z has slammed the Grammys for overlooking Beyoncé in the Album of the Year category.

Jay-Z is married to Beyoncé.

The artiste was honoured with the Dr Dre Global Impact Awards.

“She has more Grammys than everyone but never won Album of the Year,” Jay-Z said, stressing that he did not want to embarrass his wife.

The rapper noted that Beyoncé has more Grammy awards than anyone else but has yet to win the Album of the Year category, acknowledging that the matter was “subjective because it’s music and opinion-based.”

During the 2023 Grammys, Beyoncé received 32 nominations for her album ‘Renaissance’ and narrowly missed out on winning the Album of the Year award, which went to Harry Styles for ‘Harry’s House’.

The 54-year-old rapper recounted a tale from 1989 when Will Smith, Chizzy CHF, and the Fresh Prince clinched their first Grammy but opted to “boycott because it wasn’t televised.”

He also reminisced about a time when he was nominated for the best rap album, and DMX had released two albums that year but received no nominations, prompting him to also “boycott.”

“I’m just saying we just want y’all to get it right. We love y’all, and we want y’all to get it right—at least get it close to right,” said Jay-Z.

The rapper added, “You know some of you may go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed; some of you don’t even belong in the category. Aside from Grammys, you gotta keep showing up until they give you the accolades you feel you deserve.”
