Jigawa State ministry of women affairs and social development, has honoured 50 men and women in appreciation for their selfless service to women development.

Hadiza Abdulwahab, the commissioner for women affairs and social development, said this at a one-day Jigawa Women Summit, on Saturday in Dutse.

The event was organised to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day, to recognise the contributions of men and women in support of women development in the state.

Mrs Adulwahab lauded the state governor, Umar Namadi, for his endless support towards women development.

According to her, the recipients greatly impacted on the development and empowerment of women, especially in education, health and economic development.

In their separate remarks, some of the recipients, commended the gesture, adding that it would encourage them to do more.

A former minister of education, Prof. Rukayyatu Rufa’i, harped on more investment for girls’ education and empowerment.

She commended Mr Namadi’s administration for paying special attention to education and advancement of women.

Hauwa Mustapha, a senior special adviser to Mr Namadi on early child education, tasked parents to provide quality education and moral upbringing of their children.

Hafsat Ganduje, wife of the former Kano state governor, Umar Ganduje, urged government to explore alternative ways to advance education for women.

She, however, challenged girls to explore their potential in creative skills to enable them to contribute to society.

On her part, wife of the Jigawa Governor, Hadiza Umar Namadi, pledged continued support to women in the state.

Mrs Namadi enjoined women to explore ways to enable them to become self-reliant.

The International Women’s Day is being celebrated globally on March 8, as a focal point in women’s rights movement.

The theme of the summit is, “Inspire, Inclusion.”
