Jos court hands prison sentence to miner for breach of trust

The Jos Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old miner, Ibrahim Shettu, to two years in prison for cheating.
The convict had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge bordering on breach of trust and cheating, preferred against him by the police.
The magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict to a term of one year’s imprisonment for the offence of breach of trust, or a fine of N25,000, or to a term of one year’s imprisonment for the offence of cheating, or a fine of N25,000.
The court ordered that the sentences should run concurrently. Additionally, the magistrate ordered the convict to pay N300,000 in compensation to the complainant.
While reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that a complainant, Uwaisy Muhammad, had reported the case on November 10, 2025, at the Nasarawa Gbong Police Station.
Mr Gokwat said the convict was given N316,000 by the complainant to buy chemicals, but he converted the money for his personal use.
