A magistrate’s court in Jos on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old driver, Victor Jonah, to one year’s imprisonment for stealing a phone.

The magistrate, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of mischief and theft.

Ms Pati, however, gave the convict the option of a N10,000 fine for mischief, or six months’ imprisonment, and a N10,000 fine for stealing, or another six months’ imprisonment.

She said both sentences should run concurrently.

The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on December 29, 2025, at the Gada Biu Police Station by the complainant, Alheri Victor.

Mr Gokwat said the convict stole the phone from the tricycle and later called the complainant to pick it up at a location he provided.
