Jos Killings: Lawmakers urge victims to forgive, embrace one another

Lawmakers of Plateau state House of Assembly have asked victims of attacks in parts of the state to “forgive, reconcile and embrace one another in love.”
Led by the speaker, Abok Ayuba, the lawmakers visited injured victims of Tuesday’s attack in Yelwa Zangam community of Jos North Local Government Area in hospital on Saturday.
Expressing sadness over persistent attacks in the state, Mr Ayuba said the House was against the “killing of people in the state in whatever guise.”
The visiting lawmakers donated an undisclosed amount of money on behalf of the Assembly as part of assistance for the upkeep of the victims.
“We thank the management of the hospital for accepting the victims and we urge it to continue to give proper treatment to victims. We assure you that the government is committed to bearing the cost of the victims’ treatment,” Mr Ayuba said.
Receiving the cash gift on behalf of the victims, a member of the affected community, Samuel Jeje, thanked the lawmakers for the visit, and thanked the hospital for receiving and accepting to treat the victims without them depositing money.
Jovita Egwu, a reverend sister and administrator of the hospital, who received the speaker and his entourage, said that two of the 13 victims brought to the hospital died while the other 11 victims were responding to treatment.
The lawmakers also visited the state Specialist Hospital, Jos, where victims of the Rukuba road attack were receiving treatment and made a cash donation to support them.
They prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, restoration of peace, and commended the state governor, Simon Lalong, for settling the medical bills of the victims.
