Jos resident bags 18 months’ imprisonment for stealing POS machines

A magistrate’s court in Jos, on Monday, sentenced a 20-year-old, Abba Hassan, to 18 months in prison for stealing POS machines.
The magistrate, Irene Pati, summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Ms Pati, in her judgment, however, gave the convict the option of a fine of N30,000 or spending six months in prison for trespass.
She also sentenced the suspect to one year in prison for theft or the option of paying a fine of N50,000.
She ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N165,000 or spend an additional four months in prison, adding that all sentences were to run concurrently.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘C’ Division Police Station on September 16 by Ibrahim Nimmak, the complainant.
Mr Gokwat said the convict stole the five machines valued at N162,000 from the complainant’s car, where he had parked it.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
