American journalist, Glenn Greenwald, has announced the death of his husband, David Miranda.

“It is with the deepest sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, David Miranda”, Greenwald tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Miranda, a Brazilian politician and former federal deputy, died after spending nine months at an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Clinca Sao Vincete, Rio De Janeiro.

He was aged 38.

Mr Miranda, who represented the state of Rio de Janeiro, had been hospitalised since August 6, 2022, after he fell sick and was treated for gastrointestinal infection.

His condition worsened and culminated in septicemia when the infection gets out of control and spreads throughout the body.

Brazilian President Lula Inacio da Silva has also expressed his condolences to Greenwald and his family.

“He’s a young man with an extraordinary trajectory who left too soon,” he also tweeted.
