Bandits abduct four persons in Abuja

Armed bandits suspected to be kidnappers have yet again struck another community in Abuja, kidnapping four persons.

The attack occurred in Kiyi community around Kuje Council Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A resident simply identified as Oyedeji told Peoples Gazette Monday by phone that the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on March 24.

Abuja-based Daily Trust disclosed that a government staffer was amongst the four persons that were abducted. Others are; a technician, taxi driver and motorcycle rider.

The government worker, Salami Olalekan, who was abducted in his home, is a staffer of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

His elder brother, William Salami, was cited in the report saying that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded for a N50 million ransom.

“The kidnappers called once for N50 million ransom for one person. When they raided the house, they did not carry anything except cooking gas,” Mr Salami said.

The Gazette cannot independently confirm how the three other victims were abducted during the attack.

The FCT police spokeswoman, Mariam Yusuf, did not respond to multiple calls and messages when contacted Monday for comment by The Gazette.

Ms Yusuf, in her response to Daily Trust said the FCT command have launched a search and rescue operation to free the kidnapped victims.

Bandits have continued to launch attacks on residents across communities in the outskirts of the FCT leading to the abduction of dozens.

The areas where kidnapping activities are rampant in Abuja are; Pegi, Kwali and Kuje axis. Other satellite towns with the capital city has reported a few cases of kidnapping activities.
