At least six police officers and a soldier were reportedly killed Wednesday morning by gunmen in Cross River communities.

The gunmen also stole the security agents’ rifles in the attacks that happened separately.

The killing occurred at a checkpoint in Ofutora, and Oyadama communities in the Obubra local government area of the state, a local blog, Cross River Watch, reported.

The latest killing came barely one week after gunmen killed four policemen while on duty in the state’s Idundun axis.

In the latest attack, two policemen were gathered fatally shot in Ofatura, and four were killed in Onyadama at a checkpoint.

The blog disclosed that the assailants killed a soldier stationed in a checkpoint in another separate attack.

Irene Ugbo, police command spokeswoman in Cross River, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette Wednesday morning.

“We had an attack this morning. We lost just two policemen, and their rifles were taken away. The six policemen that were alleged (killed) is false,” Ms. Ugbo said.
