Many feared killed as passenger train collides with metro bus in Lagos

Witnesses said they expected many had been killed after a passenger train derailed from its tracks and collided with a metro bus in Lagos on Thursday.
The incident occurred at the Sogunle rail crossing leading into Adekunle Fajuyi Way in Ikeja during rush hour, according to two social media accounts obtained by Peoples Gazette.
Another witness said the bus driver entered the rail tracks without observing normal caution, leading the train to run the bus over and drag it several hundred metres with its passengers.
A witness said emergency services had yet to arrive at the scene, but images shared with The Gazette indicated the incident was gruesome. Passengers were still being pulled out of the wreckage.
Some teachers were believed to be aboard the passenger bus run by the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit department. The train was said to be northbound and collided shortly after a routine stop at the major terminal in Oshodi.
Spokespersons for the police and emergency services were not immediately available to provide updates on what happened.
