JUST IN: National grid collapses second time in four days

Nigerians have once again been plunged into darkness as the national power grid collapsed for the second time in January, just four days after the first system failure on Friday.

Checks by Peoples Gazette on the website of the Nigerian Independent System Operator, as of 12:00 p.m., showed that almost all the electricity distribution companies received no power allocation supplied.

However, only Azua-Edo IPP (gas) and Delta (gas) had 90.00 megawatts and 129.00 megawatts, respectively, on the grid.

Confirming the system collapse, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, in an update to customers, said, “Kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 10:48 hours, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.

“We are currently working with our TCN partners as we hope for the speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as the power supply is restored.”

Also, the Port-Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc said, “Kindly be informed that the outage currently experienced in all our franchise areas is due to grid collapse. We appeal to our esteemed customers to exercise patience as the relevant team is working tirelessly to restore power supply as soon as possible.”

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi attributed the incessant collapse of the national power grid to leadership failures in the country.
