Gun wielding men suspected to be bandits have reportedly kidnapped a sister in law and brother to Bashir Gorau, Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development in Sokoto.

The incident occurred in Gorau town during the wee hours of Wednesday, Mr. Gorau said on his Facebook page.

The 32-year-old commissioner disclosed that the victims were abducted at gunpoint when the brigands invaded their family house.

“Innalillahi wa Inna wa innalillahi Rajiuun!!!

“It’s about 12:45 a.m. that, bandits attacked our house in Gorau town, abduct wife of our elder brother Alh Lawali Gorau and one of our brother Hassan Manya.

“May God protect and return them to us Amin. In need of your prayers fellow Muslims,” Mr. Gorau said.

When contacted, Sanusi Abubakar, police spokesman in the state told Peoples Gazette by phone Wednesday afternoon that he is not aware of the recent abduction.

“I will get back to you, let me make some clarifications first before a make comments.” Mr. Abubakar said. He has not reverted as of press time.

States across the North-West region has recorded cases of wanton killings and kidnappings due to banditry activities.

The brigands have continued to carry out attacks going unchallenged by security operatives across the region.

Over 300 schoolgirls in neighbouring Zamfara were released on Monday after spending three days in hostage. President Muhammadu Buhari vowed that that abduction incident would be the last.

Aso Rock declared Zamfara a no fly zone’ to make good it’s promise. The latest abduction in Sokoto, however, casts a blight of government’s assurances.
