The Senate on Tuesday asked President Muhamadu Buhari to declare full scale war against Boko Haram, ISWAP and bandit terrorists causing mayhem across the country. 

The resolution was sequel to a motion on banditry in Kaduna state sponsored by Uba Sani (APC-Kaduna Central).

Leading debate on the motion, Mr Sani disclosed that bandits had stepped up attacks in some communities of Giwa LGA of Kaduna.

The senator asked security forces to reassess their strategies to come up with effective solution to the menace of banditry and terrorism. 

Faulting tactics adopted by security forces in handling the attacks, the lawmaker wondered why decisive actions haven’t been taken against bandits’ months after being declared terrorists. 

He argued that “a comprehensive operational plan, executed with high sense of professionalism and responsibility will rid Kaduna state forest of the murderous elements.”

Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC-Niger) said the terrorists have declared war on Nigeria, and the government must consider them a serious national threat.

The resolution comes as bandits continue to execute dangerous attacks on unarmed civilians.  

Peoples Gazette on Monday reported that armed bandits bombed a Kaduna-Abuja train conveying hundreds of passengers. 

The incident came two days after armed gangs invaded Kaduna International Airport, killing aviation workers and leaving many others wounded.

The Senate urged the Nigerian military to put special focus on the vicinity of Nigerian Airports, especially the Abuja Airport.

It also tasked relevant government agencies  to step up their information gathering mechanism to forestall this kind of incident.
