Kano man arraigned for stealing phone

A 30-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, appeared before a Kano Sharia Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing an Infinix Hot 11 cellphone, valued at N91,000.
The defendant, who resides at Hotoro Quarters in Kano, is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Zahradeen Abubakar, told the court that the case was reported at the Hotoro police station on July 16 by a complainant, one Ladidi Dauda, who also resides in Hotoro.
He alleged that the defendant stole the phone from the complainant’s shop under the pretext of wanting to purchase sachet water.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant was, however, caught and handed over to the police.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 134 of the Kano State Penal Code Law.
The judge, Umar Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000.
He adjourned the case until August 14 for mention.
