The Kano State Government said on Tuesday it awarded over ₦40.8 billion in contracts for the construction of 17 township roads in Kano metropolis local government areas (LGAs).

They include Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala and Ungogo LGAs.

The Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, said this while conducting the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya, on a tour of completed and ongoing road projects.

Mr Waiya said that the contracts demonstrated Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to providing road infrastructure, which he described as his key campaign promise.

He said that the roads included Tudun-Yola-Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, which were awarded at the cost of ₦1.896 billion.

The list also included the N1.323 billion Jafar-Madobi road and underpass.

He also said that the Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road Rehabilitation and Muhammad Buhari Road rehabilitations were awarded at N2.014 billion and N4.108 billion, respectively.

Others are the Rijiyar Lemo Road (N494.367 million), Kwanar Durba – Fammar-Kunau Kure Road Erosion Control (N205.983 million) and Airport Road Rehabilitation (N5.956 billion).

According to the commissioner, the projects aimed to improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents in the state.

He said, “The government’s investment in infrastructure development demonstrates its commitment to fulfilling the governor’s campaign promise and driving economic growth.”

He said the government was expending N13.3 billion on the construction of the Rogo-Bari-Falgore-Mahangi roads, located in Rogo LGA, and N6.9 billion for the construction of the Panda-Hamdullahi-Albasu-Salkwayan Dutse Roads in Albasu LGA.

The commissioner said those roads had been prioritised due to their economic and social importance to improve the quality of life of the people living in the two council areas.

He explained that upon completion, the roads would ease movement, enhance driving experiences, facilitate business activities, improve conveyance of goods from farms to markets, and boost the local economy.

Mr Yahaya commended Mr Yusuf for his efforts in transforming the state capital.

He said the roads would significantly boost the socioeconomic development of the state.

Mr Yahaya praised the state government for allocating sufficient funds to the education sector and recognising it as a crucial investment for the state’s future.
