Kano: Tarauni LG vaccinates 7,213 cattle against livestock diseases
The Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State has vaccinated 7,213 cattle against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), cough, flu, and other common cattle diseases.
The head of the agriculture and natural resources department in the council, Ado Dahiru, stated this on Wednesday in Tarauni during the cattle vaccination campaign.
Mr Dahiru said that the animals were vaccinated free of charge for herders in selected settlements to boost livestock production.
He said the exercise was part of efforts by the council, in collaboration with the state government, to improve animal health and boost livestock production.
According to him, the programme also aims to reduce losses experienced by herders due to preventable animal diseases.
The veterinary team leader, Hanga, said the initiative was designed to protect cattle and sensitise livestock owners on proper animal health management.
He noted that diseases such as flu spread quickly during certain periods, making regular vaccination necessary.
The council’s chairman, Ahmed Ibrahim-Sekure, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing programmes that support agriculture and livestock development.
He further said that the council would continue to prioritise initiatives that improve the economic well-being of residents.
Mr Ibrahim-Sekure commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting development projects in the state.
Some of the herders who benefited from the exercise expressed appreciation to the local government for providing free animal healthcare services closer to their communities.
The exercise was carried out in Baso Dantsinke, Idris Abubakar, and Muhammad Loga areas in Unguwa Uku ‘Yan Awaki settlements, all within Tarauni LGA.
