The Civil Liberties Organization has mourned the constitutional lawyer and foremost educationalist, Prof. Ben Nwabueze.

It noted that the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu, was the greatest tribute the Federal Government could pay to immortalise Nwabueze.

“Nwabueze was a servant leader who contributed immensely towards constitutional, socioeconomic and political development of our dear country, Nigeria,” the Chairman of CLO in Anambra State, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, said.

Mr Ezekwueme who spoke in Enugu on Wednesday said that Nwabueze made invaluable contributions towards restoration of security, good governance, accelerated development, peace and tranquillity in the entire South-East and Nigeria.

According to him, as a member of the 1979 Constitutional Drafting Committee, Prof. Nwabueze played indispensable roles towards the committee’s assignments.

“Nwabueze as Minister of Education and Youths Development under President Ibrahim Babangida administration revolutionised our education sector, improved academic performances, discipline and high academic standard and ensured zero tolerance for strikes, examination malpractice and corruption in schools. It is on record that he remains the most vibrant, articulate and astute secretary general of Igbo apex socio-cultural organization – Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“He was in the forefront in the fight for an end to disunity in Igbo nation, unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and an end to Monday sit-at-home,” he said.

The CLO boss said the greatest tribute the Federal Government should pay in his memory to immortalise him should be the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, which was his most important request from the Federal Government.

He said: “CLO equally prays for eternal repose of his gentle and humble soul in paradise.

“We equally pray for God to give Nwabueze’s family, Ogbaru council area, Anambra State, Ohanaeze and his loved ones the grace and fortitude to bear and endure the irreparable and irreplaceable loss.”
