Katsina govt. empowers eight GBV survivors with business training, funding

The Katsina state centre for gender-based violence (GBV) has trained eight GBV survivors on different trades in the state.
The state’s commissioner for women Affairs, Zainab Musa-Musawa, disclosed this at their graduation in Katsina on Friday.
The commissioner also disclosed that the survivors, who were mostly females, were empowered with N30,000 each to establish their own businesses.
According to her, the gesture is part of the state government’s commitment toward supporting the survivors of GBV, so that they will not feel stigmatised.
She added that the administration of Gov. Dikko Radda was committed to fighting the menace of GBV and women’s empowerment.
The commissioner added that some of the survivors were handed over to their state officials, while some were reunited with their families.
Ms Musa-Musawa further disclosed that from the inauguration of the centre on Dec. 10, 2023 to date, they had received and treated about 91 GBV cases.
She said that 41 cases of abuse were treated, 11 cases of denial to resources, nine cases related forced marriages, nine physical assault, 10 sexual assault and three rape cases.
In her remarks, the coordinator of the centre, Rabi Mohammed, commended all the stakeholders for their support to it.
She disclosed that the beneficiaries were trained for three months in different trades, expressing confidence that they would judiciously utilise the gesture.
