Kebbi first lady seeks collaboration to combat gender-based violence

Wife of Kebbi governor, Zainab-Nasare Idris, has appealed to civil society organisations in the state to cooperate with her to curb gender-based violence.
She made the plea while addressing a news conference as part of activities lined up to mark 2024 World Women’s Day at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor’s wife observed that the call became imperative because the menace required collective efforts by all stakeholders.
She said her door was always open, “so that together we can tackle the challenges. GBV is not only restricted to raping; it also involves other aspects of a woman’s life.
“As a husband, you are not expected to beat your wife; you are not expected to maltreat her or abuse her; so, there are different forms of gender-based violence happening in our society.”
The governor’s wife appealed to women, especially the youth, to shun negative use of social media.
She stated, “Let us imbibe the habit of using social media platforms to increase our knowledge or wealth, as opposed to using them to cheat or expose our bodies.”
She assured women in the state that the present administration under her husband planned different skills acquisition programmes for women to empower them to stand on their feet.
The governor’s wife also promised to support women to study health-related courses to fill in the gap in manpower needed by women in the profession.
