American rapper Kendrick Lamar has received 125 formal complaints to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for his historic Super Bowl halftime performance.

Lamar, who performed at the halftime of the Super Bowl on February 9, received several complaints concerning the performance.

According to a report by The Hills, the complaint ranges from accusations that the performance was provocative, racist, and gang-affiliated.

Several viewers cited Mr Lamar’s lyrics, choreography, and a guest appearance by tennis legend Serena Williams as a point of concern.

“Our children should not have been subjected to seeing and hearing the language and gestures,” a viewer said.

Another viewer said, “It is tiresome to have to send children out of the room during what should be a family event due to possible vulgarity and inappropriate language/gestures.”

Another complaint criticised the show for being divisive, downgrading, and filled with profanity, while others took issue with the racial composition of the performance.

Lamar was the first solo rapper to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and the performance featured cuts from his acclaimed discography and recent album titled ‘GNX’.

The performance was met with widespread critical acclaim and quickly became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history.
