Amid attacks on farmlands, kidnapping, and killing, Nigerian farmers have begged security forces for protection against killer herdsmen and other criminal elements. 

Specifically, the Chairman of Farmer’s Association in Otun-Ekiti, Moba local government area of Ekiti, Peter Ibitoye, appealed to security agencies to take proactive measures to arrest kidnappers tormenting their members.

Mr Ibitoye disclosed that in Otun-Ekiti, farmers did not feel safe due to constant attacks on their farms by killer herdsmen.

He noted with concern that some farmers had abandoned their farms because of fear of attack and kidnap.

Mr Ibitoye pointed out that kidnappers were frustrating farmers and called on security agencies to protect them.

“I want to appeal to the security agencies including the Nigerian police, military, Amotekun corps, and vigilance groups to help us curb incessant kidnapping and attacks on our members.

“Cases of killings and kidnapping of our members are becoming serious issues that need to be addressed urgently,” stated Mr Ibitoye.

He stated that the government at the state level could not give farmers needed protection.

Giving the reason, he said, “The state government only relies on security agencies to help curb the menace. This is why we are also appealing to them to help us provide a lasting solution to every act of kidnapping.

“We are not happy with the incessant attacks on our farms, where we have invested our money, time, and energy. I want to appeal to our security agencies to rescue us from these unknown kidnappers, who want to ruin our lives.”
