Kogi Central: Tribunal nullifies APC’s victory, declares PDP’s Natasha Akpoti winner

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal has declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as the winner of the Kogi Central senatorial election.
The tribunal panel also declared the victory of Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as void.
INEC had declared Mr Ohere, a former Kogi State Commissioner for Works, as the winner of the February election with 52,132 votes to beat Ms Akpoti-Uduagan, who was said to have scored 51,763, a difference of 369 votes between them.
But in a unanimous decision, a three-man tribunal panel headed by Justice K. A. Orjiako declared that the results for Mr Ohere were inflated in nine polling places in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area (LGA).
It stated that results for Ms Akpoti-Uduagan were purposely reduced by INEC and three other polling units’ results were not entered for the PDP candidate in the same LGA.
After making the proper correction, the court declared Ms Akpoti-Uduagan as the poll winner, having polled 54,074 against Mr Ohere, who polled 51,291.
