KOSIEC releases timetable for 2026 LG poll
The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has unveiled the timetable for the 2026 Local Government elections in the state.
The commission’s Chairman, Mamman Nda-Eri, stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday in Lokoja.
Mr Nda-Eri said the release complied with Section 197(1)(b) and Paragraph 3 of Part 2 of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
He added that the timetable also adhered to provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 governing the conduct of local elections.
The chairman urged political parties and stakeholders to note the dates, stressing that they remained subject to change by the commission.
According to the timetable, campaigns for the 2026 local government election will begin on May 20 and end on October 15, 2026.
Reacting, a former chairmanship aspirant in Olamaboro LGA, Emmanuel Abah, urged the commission to ensure a transparent and credible process in 2026.
