The Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) paid an advocacy visit to the palace of Oba Buhari Sharafa of Onijagbo on Saturday for the rapid take-off of project implementation.

The visit to Onijagbo of Ijagbo land in Oyun LGA was in furtherance to the six selected communities ahead of the plan to establish nurseries for planting economic and valuable trees.

Shamsideen Aregbe, the project coordinator in Kwara, said the mission was to facilitate the provision of five hectares of land by the Ijagbo community to establish nurseries.

The Onijagbo described the ACReSAL central nursery project as a great initiative. The traditional ruler declared his unwavering support for the project and assured them his commitment to its success.

He said the project would not only facilitate greater socio-economic development but also improve his people’s livelihood.

Mr Sharafa promised to relate with his subjects to earmark suitable land for the prompt commencement of the project.

Mr Aregbe explained that six communities, including Ijagbo, have been selected to establish the central nursery project in Kwara.

He emphasised that the ACReSAL project was a partnership between the World Bank and the Kwara government, stressing that the project was also being implemented in 19 other northern states and Abuja.

He also mentioned that the project would serve the Ijagbo community and the neighbouring ones. He allayed fears and assured them that the community would still own the land to be used for the project.
