The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria in Kwara State embarked on an indefinite strike on Monday, over the alleged failure of the state government to implement the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure and review the salaries of judiciary workers.

This came a week after the union issued a seven-day strike notice, expressing its frustration over what it termed prolonged neglect of judiciary workers’ welfare in the state.

In a statement signed by the union’s Public Relations Officer, Aliu Ahmad Gold, the union stated that the decision followed the government’s failure to address their demands despite repeated complaints.

“We, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kwara State Chapter, regret to inform the general public that after exhausting all avenues for dialogue and negotiation, we have been left with no choice but to proceed on an industrial strike effective today, Monday, August 25, 2025,” the union said.

Noting that the salaries of judicial workers were last reviewed during the then Bukola Saraki’s administration, the union described the neglect by Governor Abdurahman Abdulrasaq’s administration as regrettable.

The statement added, “We find it deeply regrettable that the judiciary, which stands as a crucial and equal arm of the government, is experiencing this unprecedented low treatment, while other branches have apparently been afforded the privilege of operating smoothly and enjoying various benefits, unchecked and unhampered.”

The union stated the disparity in treatment of workers raised concerns about fairness and balance within the governmental system, noting it highlighted the pressing need to address such inequities to ensure that all branches function autonomously and justly within their respective roles.

“We have written several letters to the management and the state government, including a 21-day strike notice between July 25 and August 18, 2025, and a seven-day notice to the Kwara state government between August 18th and 25th, 2025, but our demands have fallen on deaf ears, and we have been met with utter disregard,” JUSUN explained.
