Kwara United out of CAF Confederation Cup after 2-0 defeat to RSB Berkane

Kwara United are out of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 2-0 defeat to defending champions RSB Berkane in the return leg of the second preliminary round fixture on Saturday night.
The Nigerian side came from behind to thrash Berkane 3-1 in the first leg of the fixture at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium last week but were unable to replicate the impressive performance in Morocco today.
The Moroccan side needed to overcome a two goals deficit and grab in the early minutes of the encounter when Cheick Ouattara tapped the ball home assist by Issoufou Dayo to give Berkane the lead.
The hosts made several dangerous attempts to score another goal in the match but were futile as the first half ended in favour of Berkane.
Oubaddi capitalised on a blunder by Kwara United goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka to double the lead for the hosts ten minutes into the second half.
No goal was scored again in the encounter as Oubaddi’s strike sealed the victory for the Moroccan side and 3-3 on aggregate. Berkane scaled through to the group stage of the competition thanks to the away goal rule.
There were controversies in the build up to the match as Kwara United reported that the hosts deliberately booked a midnight flight for the Nigerian contingents in an attempt to unsettle the travelling squad.
The contingents were also slowly driven around the town in an attempt to waste time before the team got to their hotel around 3:40 a.m.
At the hotel where they lodged, the management allegedly ordered the team to relocate to another hotel, citing that it has already been booked for RSB Berkane squad, but officials of Kwara United rejected the request.
