Peter Jediel, chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Taraba, said on Monday that organised labour had recorded 70 per cent compliance for the strike.

Mr Jediel made this known while briefing journalists shortly after going round to monitor compliance in Jalingo, the state capital.

He said the cooperation from trade union leaders in mobilising fellow unionists for the strike was impressive.

Mr Jediel said compliance became necessary due to directives from their national body.

Unionists were seen driving workers, who earlier reported to their duty posts, out of offices.

The state secretariat, where most state workers report to work, became deserted on Monday morning, although commercial banks and private schools were seen operating.

The organised labour had embarked on an indefinite strike, beginning at midnight on Sunday, to press home their demands.

These demands border on the non-conclusion of negotiation for the national minimum wage and the hike in electricity tariff.
