The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has withdrawn the licences of some underperforming Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and realigned waste collection routes in areas with increased waste generation.

The managing director of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Lagos.

Mr Gbadegesin said the decision followed a comprehensive operational review aimed at aligning operator capacity with the growing waste management demands of the state.

He explained that the affected operators failed to meet required service standards, making the withdrawal necessary in the interest of public health and environmental sustainability.

He listed the affected operators as Kenny JPS – Igando-Ikotun (Egan II); Clean Craft Nig. Ltd., Igando-Ikotun (Isheri-Oshun I); Doveroost Ltd., Eti-Osa West; Dewayls – Orade (Ijegun Emure); and Pesjoy Ventures – Ejigbo (Bucknor II).

He added that the authority had realigned waste collection routes in areas experiencing rapid development and increased waste generation for enhanced operational efficiency.

According to him, under the new arrangement, existing operators will retain portions of their routes, while additional operators have been introduced to complement their capacity and ensure more efficient coverage.

“Operators affected by the route realignment include Shekaz Global Ltd – Isolo (Ishaga/Ire Akari axis) and Krestabol Waste Management – Ikorodu (Lowa).

“In locations where development has outpaced the capacity of a single operator, it becomes necessary to redistribute operational responsibilities to guarantee timely and effective service delivery,” Mr Gbadegesin said.

He added that some operators voluntarily relinquished parts of their routes, allowing the authority to reassign those areas to more capable operators.

“Operators in this category include Ayolade Oluwabukola Enterprises – Lagos Island East (Ajele axis) and Imperium Waste Services – Ayobo/Ipaja (Slot B),” Mr Gbadegesin said.

Mr Gbadegesin emphasised that the restructuring was a strategic intervention to strengthen the PSP framework, improve accountability, and ensure that waste management services keep pace with Lagos’ rapid urban growth.

He urged residents to cooperate with newly assigned operators and to patronise only LAWMA-accredited PSP operators.

The LAWMA boss reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to continuous monitoring, enforcement, and stakeholder engagement to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
