Lagos shuts down Valuepoint Supermarket over sale of expired products

Authorities in Lagos have shut down Valuepoint Supermarket over the sale of expired products.
Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency sent a non-compliance notice to the Valuepoint Supermarket located at Ajao Estate, Lagos for displaying expired products that endangers human lives on their shelves.
Afolabi Solebo, the general manager of LASCOPA, said the supermarket was closed down over their refusal to comply with the directive from the agency.
He said despite warnings from the agency some supermarkets and store managers still sell “expired and hazardous products which are dangerous to human health”, noting that these contravene the state government law.
“Despite several public enlightenment campaigns and warnings by LASCOPA, store managers still sell expired and hazardous products which are dangerous to human health in contravention of the State Government’s directives on the sale of unwholesome goods,” Mr Solebo said.
He reiterated that the state government has zero tolerance for the sale of hazardous and expired products and will not fail to initiate litigation against any store or supermarket found culpable.
Mr Solebo assured the public that their consumers’ rights will be promoted, adding that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that consumers are safe and protected by the agency.
Recently, the agency sealed Cynosure Supermarket in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State over the display of expired products on their shelves. Other stores were also closed down to curb public harm.
