The management of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has shutdown the institution, asking medical students to leave the school hostels after some officials and three students tested positive for COVID-19.

The College declared that the school will be closed on Friday, and students are being mandated to return to their homes.

The affected officials and students are being treated for the infection.

A spokesman for the College, Ademola Adekoya confirmed the incident Thursday night.

Mr. Adekoya noted that the roommates of those that tested positive for the infection are being tested and isolated.

“Roommates of the three students who tested positive and their associates are being tested; the College already isolated the affected three students and has commenced contact tracing of all affected students,” he explained.

Mr. Ademola said other students of the College have been advised to proceed home to self-isolate for the next 14 days from where their health status will be monitored by the institution.

He said any student showing symptoms at home is to contact the College through dedicated lines for necessary assistance or treatment.

“The hostel facilities were immediately closed for decontamination upon confirmation of the status of the affected students, the college has handed treatment packs to all three who tested positive,” he said.

Mr. Adekoya assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the institution has kept the situation under control, he also advised the public to keep safe and take responsibility for their safety against the virus.

Lagos State remains the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria, ranking at the top of the list nationwide with 38,549 infected patients, as the country hits a second wave.
