The Legacy Foundation of Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, the late Ibrahim Bello Foundation on Sunday donated assorted foodstuffs and clothing materials to over 1,000 vulnerable persons in Gusau, Zamfara State.

The foundation was established in memory of the late Emir of Gusau, Ibrahim Bello.

The Zamfara State First Lady, Hurriyya Dauda-Lawal, who inaugurated the distribution of the items in Gusau, commended the foundation for its invaluable gesture to the less-privileged families in the Holy month of Ramadan.

During the event, the first lady was conferred and decorated with a traditional title “Jarumar Gusau” by the Emir of Gusau, Abdulqadir Ibrahim-Bello.

Mr Lawal commended the foundation for the initiative to provide succour to the indigents during the Holy month of Ramadan.

She pledged to work with the foundation to complement government’s efforts in uplifting the lives of the vulnerable people in the state

The beneficiaries included orphans, widows, IDPs, peoples with special needs and female-headed households, among other vulnerable groups.

Each beneficiary received a bag of rice with one set of clothing materials.

Male beneficiaries received five yards of  guinea brocade (shadda) while each female beneficiary received one wrapper.

In a remark, Mr Ibrahim-Bello said the foundation was established in honour of his late father to chronicle his legacies in the areas of health, education and humanitarian support.

“The mission of this foundation is to also to provide humanitarian support through healthcare interventions, educational empowerment, and comprehensive care for orphans and vulnerable groups, while fostering partnerships that create lasting community impact,” he added.

The emir, who is also the grand patron of the foundation, said providing Ramadan welfare to the less-privileged persons especially the widows, orphans and IDPs, among others, was one of the its missions.

“We are ever ready to collaborate with all the relevant stakeholders to work together through meaningful contributions in education, healthcare, humanitarian aid, and community development, for the benefit of both current and future generations,” the monarch said.

The emir said that the foundation remained a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-sectarian organisation, committed solely to advancing charitable objectives in accordance with the vision and values of the late emir.

“To fulfill its objectives, the foundation will collaborate with government bodies, development partners, corporations and NGOs,” the emir said.

According to him, the objectives of the foundation include promoting education by providing scholarships, learning materials, mentorship, and skills development for indigent students.

He said the foundation would advance healthcare initiatives, including medical outreaches, assistance to vulnerable people, and the conduct of  routine awareness programmes.

Mr Ibrahim-Bello said, “This foundation supports community development and poverty alleviation through empowerment, training, and social welfare programmes. It will also advance charitable and humanitarian services to widows, orphans, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups.”

The traditional ruler further said the traditional title of Jarumar Gusau bestowed on the first lady was a honour and recognition to the traditional institutions in the state.

The emir added, “This is in recognition of her passion for defending the interests of the vulnerable groups especially the IDPs, orphans and people with special needs. This is for acknowledging the first lady’s various interventions, women empowerment programmes and her efforts towards promoting the girl-child.”
