LAWMA trains highway sweepers on safety, PPE use

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has trained highway sweepers on health and safety to enhance efficiency and reduce occupational risks.
The managing director of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Lagos.
Mr Gbadegesin said the training was held along the Ikate–Elegushi corridor of the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Friday.
He said the initiative underscored the authority’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of frontline sanitation workers.
Mr Gbadegesin said the training focused on the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves, masks, and safety boots, as well as the safe handling of hazardous waste.
According to him, the exercise is part of a broader strategy to strengthen safety protocols and ensure workers are adequately equipped to carry out their duties professionally.
He noted that highway sweepers operate in challenging environments and must be provided with the right knowledge, tools, and protective gear to minimise risks and boost productivity.
He said the training also reinforced the authority’s commitment to maintaining high operational standards while prioritising workers’ health and safety.
Mr Gbadegesin added that LAWMA would continue to invest in regular capacity-building and safety awareness initiatives.
He commended the dedication of the sweepers and urged them to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and the proper use of PPE.
