Lawmaker begs government to protect Ikere-Ekiti against marauding herdsmen

The lawmaker representing Ikere-Ekiti Constituency II in Ekiti House of Assembly, Tunde Idowu, has called on the state government to rescue his community from attacks by herders and cattle rustlers.
Mr Idowu made the call on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti during a chart with journalists on the incidents that occurred in the town recently between the herders and cattle rustlers on the one hand and the residents on the other.
While condemning the attacks on the farmlands of the people of Ikere-Ekiti, he called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other stakeholders to rise to the occasion and rescue the community.
“I was deeply touched and emotionally disorganised by the ugly activities of the herders and cattle rustlers in my constituency. It has been persistent and now becoming unbearable for us in the last two weeks.
“The Fulani herders have carried out a series of terrible destruction on our farmlands. All the banana, cassava, yam plantations and cocoa farms were burnt,” he said.
The lawmaker, however, commended the Ekiti government’s unwavering efforts and the swift action of the two local government chairs in Ikere LGA to checkmate the menace of herders and cattle rustlers in the area.
He urged security agencies to redouble their efforts while calling on the residents to be law-abiding, assuring the government was on top of the situation.
