Ahmed Musbau, an Ilorin-based legal practitioner, has advised politicians to refrain from using political thugs during elections.

Mr Musbau gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday in an interview, warning that elections should not be seen as a ‘do or die’ affair.

According to him, most politicians employ the service of thugs to achieve their political target not minding the consequences.

“Politicians must understand that election is not do or die. Learn to play politics without being dirty in your approach.

“Employing the service of political thugs does not speak well of Nigeria democracy.

“Thugs are destructive and should not be encouraged in our political system.

“Shun use of political thugs and play mature politics. Embrace fair play and not encourage bloody politics,” he said.

The lawyer also urged politicians to campaign decently ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial and State Assembly elections on March 18.

Besides, Mr Musbau enjoined politicians and their supporters to be peaceful and not use any vulgar language against their opponents.
