Legendary Nigerian musician Prince Morocco dies at 73

Emeka Maduka was widely celebrated for using his Ekpili genre to address social issues.

Emeka Maduka, widely known as Prince Morocco, has died. The legendary Ekpili musician was 73.

His death was announced by PMAN in Anambra on Thursday afternoon, and a memorial is planned by his family at a yet undetermined date.

Tributes have been pouring in following his passing. Orji Kalu described him as a legend who used his talent to address social and cultural issues in Nigeria.

“The late Morocco’s music was a bridge between the old tunes and a new breed of Ekpili music,” the senator said in a statement.
