Lim Jonghoon, Shin Yubin clinch mixed doubles title at WTT Contender Lagos

South Korean duo of Lim Jonghoon and Shin Yubin have clinched the Mixed Doubles title after a flawless victory against Luo Jiecheng and Xu Hiyao in the event’s final on Saturday.
The newly crowned champions Jonghoon and Yubin beat the duo of Luo and Xu 3-0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-4) in the one-sided final to lift the first trophy at the ongoing 2024 WTT Contender Lagos.
In the remaining finals in this year’s tournament, India’s Akula Sreeja (WR 43), who defeated compatriot Mukherjee Sutirtha (WR 125) 3-2 (8-11, 15-13, 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, will face China’s Ding Yijie (504) in the women’s singles final on Sunday.
It is Yijie’s first-ever final in a WTT Contender tournament and she upset India’s Mukherjee Ayhika (140) in a 3-2 (7-11, 11-7, 2-11, 13-11, 4-11) to achieve the remarkable feat in Lagos.
Meanwhile, it will be a back-to-back final appearance for Ovtcharov Dimitrij (WR 19) in Lagos as he defeated France’s Poret Thibault (WR 111) 3-1 (10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9) when he takes on Walther Ricardo (WR 101) in an all-German affair on Sunday.
Ricardo defeated South Korea’s Lim Jonghoon (WR 34) 3-2 (5-11, 12-14, 11-5, 12-10, 11-8) to reach the men’s singles final.
