Liverpool thrash Tottenham; face Newcastle United in Carabao Cup final next month

Defending champions Liverpool will face Newcastle United in the final of the 2025 Carabao Cup next month after overcoming a 1-0 first-leg deficit to thrash Tottenham 4-0 in the second leg of their semifinal match on Thursday.
Tottenham went into Thursday’s match with a one-goal advantage after they beat Liverpool in the first-leg tie at the Tottenham Stadium weeks ago but were unable to capitalise on it at Anfield.
Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half before Mohamed Salah doubled the lead from a penalty six minutes into the second half.
Dominik Szoboszlai extended the lead in the 75th minute before Virgil van Dijk’s header sealed the victory for the Reds.
Liverpool and Newcastle United now head to Wembley Stadium on March 16, where the Reds are going to try to defend the title and the Magpies out for consolation after the final loss to Manchester United two years ago.
Newcastle United reached the final following a dominant 2-0 win in both legs of their semifinal tie against Arsenal. They have now reached the Carabao Cup final twice in the last three years.
