Lodger arraigned for allegedly locking up hotel room, disappearing with key
One Kelvin Odunze, 39, who allegedly locked up a hotel room where he lodged and disappeared with the key without payment, on Wednesday was dragged before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Odunze is standing trial before Magistrate A. Alade, on a two-count charge of stealing and causing a breach of the peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on June 4 at Funcity Hotel.
She alleged that the defendant, who lodged in room 201 at the hotel, located at Imude area of Ojo, locked up the room and went to an unknown destination without dropping the key.
The prosecutor said that the defendant was with the key to the room for several days without the consent of the hotel management.
Ms Adesulu further told the court that the defendant incurred expenses on the room to the tune of N597,300 and refused to pay after returning .
The prosecutor added that the defendant allegedly conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by his action.
The offences, she said, contravened the provisions of section 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Magistrate Alade granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until December 17 for mention.
