Makinde promises immediate support for victims of Ibadan market fire

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo, on Wednesday, promised to provide immediate support to victims of the fire outbreak at Alesinloye Market, Ibadan.
Mr Makinde, during an on-the-spot assessment of the market, says the support will be actualised once the government receives a full report on the incident.
The inferno, which destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, started at about 9.00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, commiserated with traders who lost properties to the fire outbreak.
“As a government, we will do the needful in terms of immediate support through the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA).
“We will also work with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as well as public-spirited people to give immediate support to the victims of this incident,” he said.
Mr Makinde directed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to put in place adequate security at the market.
He equally asked the council authorities to prepare a comprehensive report on the cause of the fire, calling on the market leaders to enumerate the number of shops affected.
“This is a big and popular market. It is so painful.
“It is our prayer that such will not happen again.
“This fire incident is sad because this market has been in existence for quite some time,” the governor said.
