Malnutrition in Alimosho: LG flags off community-based child nutrition intervention

Alimosho LGA in Lagos has flagged off a community-based nutrition programme to tackle malnutrition among children up to five years.
Johnson Akinpelu, the council’s chairman, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Akinpelu said that the development was a timely and impactful response to the most pressing child health challenges facing the community.
According to him, the development is implemented through a strategic collaboration between the Health Emergency Initiative and the Nigerian Exchange Group.
Mr Akinpelu said that the exercise would focus on vulnerable children and their caregivers within District I of the local council area.
“About 120 children and their caregivers are expected to benefit directly from the programme.
“Malnutrition remains a critical issue that affects child survival, growth, and overall development, with long-term implications for societal health and productivity if left unaddressed.
“The programme components include nutritional screening, nutrition support, caregiver education, and referrals where necessary,” he said.
The chairman said that development represented a proactive approach to early identification, prevention, and effective management of malnutrition in society.
