Man, 25, in court for allegedly stealing yams worth N100,000 from Ekiti farm

A 25-year-old man, Godwin Sunday, was, on Thursday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing yams worth N100,000.

Sunday, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on July 19 at about 02:00 a.m at Oluwole Orungbe community in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole yams worth the sum of N100,000 on the farm of one Sunday Ibrahim.

Mr Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Section 302(1) (A) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The counsel to the defendant, Abiodun Falaye, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till August 13 for hearing.(NAN)
