 Man, 27, arraigned over alleged theft of PoS machine, phone

The chief magistrate adjourned the case until April 17 for hearing.

A 27-year-old man, Ajayi Suleiman, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a PoS machine, itel A50c phone and beverages valued at N126,600.

Suleiman of no fixed address is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.

He however pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, at about 2 p.m., in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

He alleged that the defendant stole one PoS machine, itel A50c phone and beverages valued at N126, 600 and cash sum of N357, 000 belonging to one Mary Stephen.

Mr Bamikole said the offence contravened Section 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Counsel to the defendant, Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 17, for hearing.
